‘A holiday park’
This was the answer to my dad’s regular question of ‘what does Hokitika need’? I had just returned home to Hokitika, from a campervan holiday with my family, exploring the South Island. We had stayed at some amazing holiday parks on the way and enjoyed each park for what it had to offer. Hokitika had no holiday park, as the previous one had closed and the town was missing out, as there wasn’t anywhere that could accommodate travellers on all budgets. My dad already owned some land, which was a suitable size, and it was in town, two things that helped get the idea rolling.
From there, the idea snowballed and the roller-coaster of developing Hokitika’s Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels as it is today, begun. It took a few years, but we persisted, as we knew that what was being created was special, for the people who were on their New Zealand adventure and for the town of Hokitika.
The management team is led by Kevin and Lois Stevenson. Lois is a born and bred Hokitika woman whose father Arthur Gillman was a well known local copper. She is the garden guru and is responsible for the beauty around the park. Kev is a bit of newbie having only been on the coast for 35 years or so but he’ll get his water wings soon though. Kev is in the office and in any spare time loves a game of squash so bring your racket if you want a hit. Kelly Wilson and Vi McDermott are the main relief managers with Beryl and Roger Agnew, and Garry Wells and Karen Nancekivell also making guest appearances at times. Our cleaners are awesome and always ready for a chat. They work very hard and keep the place spotless. We all look forward to looking after you at our park.
Whether coming from either North or South, as you enter the town stay on SH6 Fitzherbert Street, and turn towards the Southern Alps (East) at The Coasters Supermarket onto Park Street. Continue one block past the High School playing field. Turn left into Davie Street.
We are more than happy to answer any questions or offer any advice for your stay in Hokitika
